Match report - Cray Wanderers (h)

We came from behind to register our sixth win on the bounce and keep our promotion charge on track, writes James Barrett.

Team news: Ricardo Panton came back in at the expense of Peter Adeniyi, whom dropped to the bench.

The visitors started brightly and Lea Dawson headed a free kick at Joe Tupper in the second minute, and they continued to dominate the early possession as our lads showed willing to chase and harry.

Our first real attack came in the eighth minute as Sekou Kaba threaded a through ball for the advanced Panton to gallop onto, but his touch was heavy and the ball ran into keeper Nick Blue.

Danny Haynes, who had already scored six goals against us this season, connected to a low cross on 13 minutes but Paris Hamilton-Downes bravely blocked the shot.

We went up the other end and, as Omar Folkes and Paul Lorraine contested a high ball, Bobby Price picked up the pieces before dinking a shot over the crossbar from 18 yards.

Panton showed good endeavour to be first to a Mickel Miller flick on the left on 20 minutes before finding Folkes. He turned, got the ball out from his feet and beat Blue from 25 yards - but the ball cannoned back off the post.

Creative: two assists for Ryan Gondoh
Then Cray midfielder Lee Prescott went heavily into Kaba on halfway and the referee had no hesitation in producing a red card. Kaba required several minutes treatment and sadly had to leave the field on a stretcher.

But we failed to capitalise and Cray took the lead as we failed twice to clear a free kick delivery into our box and Lea Dawson smashed the loose ball back beyond Tupper from six yards.

That prompted us into action but the closest we came to anything was when Miller showed an injection of pace to get away from his marker and he appeared to be pushed over by the covering Dawson in the area, but the referee waved play on.

HALF-TIME: 0 - 1

We came out more determined in the second-half and put Cray on the back foot, and we thought we'd levelled on 52 minutes when, after Price and Folkes combined inside their box, Miller sidefooted home - but the linesman's flag curtailed the celebrations.

That setback didn't knock us out our stride though because, after jordan Hibbert saw a 20 yard shot drift just wide of Blue's far post, we did equalise.

Ryan Gondoh forced a corner from the gloves of Blue which we took short and eventually our midfielder tried his luck again from distance. The visiting keeper could only parry his second effort and Folkes reacted quickest to ram the loose ball in for his fifth since joining us in January.

Our very next attack ended with Blue doing well to tip over a left-footed curler from Price on the far side, but our adventurous full back wasn't to be denied again on 63 minutes.

Price (left) sees his winning shot fly in
He burst on to a weighted through ball to run clear of the Wands' defence and, as everyone expected him to play the ball across the six yard box, Price instead smashed a low shot inside the far post to the jubilation of the home fans.

There was another flash-point a few minutes later as Miller and Jay Leader clashed and it sparked a melee involving several players - in the end the referee simply booked both protagonists.

We were now in full control and keeping the ball for long spells, with the visitors defending stoutly around their 18 yard box as we pushed and probed.

And when we did find a way through to goal, Blue was equal to attempts by Tommy Bradford, Miller and Gondoh on separate occasions.

Our defenders mopped up a couple of searching balls over the top at various times, and Tupper showed he was still alert as he claimed a dangerous late cross in amongst several bodies, but we comfortably show out the game for another valuable three points.
