We completed a league double over our local rivals with a late goal sealing a 2-1 victory, writes James Barrett-Sterling.
Team news
There was only one change from our win at Greenwich Borough with Mickel Miller coming in for Ryan Healy. Ex-Robins Matt Males and Saidou Khan were in the Chipstead starting eleven.
Kick-off
And Miller was straight in on the action as, after picking up a pass from Ricky Korboa, he got Bobby Price free on the right. His pinpoint cross picked out an unmarked Raheem Starling-Parker but our top scorer guided a header off-target from close range.
And our returning forward threaded a through ball that would've had Sterling-Parker in on goal just a minute later, but a timely sliding clearance by Callum Maclean curtailed the move.
Our visitors' first chance came on 13 minutes as Sam Bell managed to get free inside our box but he headed Chris O'Flaherty's cross straight at Billy Bishop.
We continued to drive forward however - Miller struck the near post with an angled shot on 18 minutes, while Jordan Cheadle saw a 20 yard shot deflected just off target with Michael Sibley sprawling.
A lovely cross-field pass by Cheadle just after the half-hour found Price in acres of space. Our captain used his forward's runs as decoys before unleashing a firm half volley from distance, but Sibley got himself behind it.
Sterling-Parker's eyes lit up on 39 minutes as he closed down a hesitant Maclean whom allowed himself to be dispossessed 35 yards from goal. Our man bore down on Sibley but the keeper saved his skipper's blushes by getting down low to tip the effort away.
HALF-TIME: 0 - 0
We also began the second-half brightly with Miller and Tommy Bradford both calling Sibley into fairly routine saves.
There was a little warning sign on 53 minutes as Chipstead managed to loft a cross into our box from the left and, again, Bell headed the ball right at a grateful Bishop.
But, just two minutes later, Chipstead broke from the edge of the their box and eventually Erivaldo Felix, who was given far too much time on the right, floated over a ball which was headed in by Dylan Cascoe.
It was a little hard to take but we had failed to turn our dominance into goals before that point, however we got ourselves level 20 minutes later.
We won a corner that Miller whipped in quickly and, having not been picked up coming from deep, Mohammed-Idris Oshilaja headed the ball in for his first-ever goal in Carshalton red.
There was a controversial moment on 82 minutes as Khan went in heavily on Peter Adeniyi - he appeared to go in two-footed and not in control - but, once the dust settled, the referee only booked the midfielder.
But our winner came via a flash of inspiration by Sterling-Parker with four minutes to go. A quickly-taken corner found Bradford whom drilled a low cross into their box and our top scorer cheekily back-heeled the ball inside the far post from six yards.
