Match report - Molesey (h)

We gave our goal difference a boost as we saw off Molesey 5-0, writes James Barrett-Sterling.

Team news
Danny Dudley, Ryan Healy and Ricky Korboa replaced Kalvin Morath-Gibbs, Ola Sogbanmu and Raheem Sterling-Parker, while Mohammed Idris-Olishaja and Brendan Murphy-McVey were back among the substitutes. Ex-Robin Ronald Sobowale was named on the Molesey bench.

Kick-off
The game remained a stalemate until just after the quarter of an hour mark - a slightly scrappy opening goal, as Molesey failed to clear the ball inside their box, and Omar Koroma poked home from close range.

And, less than 10 minutes later, the returning Korboa looked up and picked out Christie Pattisson whom blasted his second goal in Robins red from just outside the visitors' area.

We stretched our lead further on 36 minutes as Jordan Cheadle got beyond the Molesey defence before dinking a cross which the unmarked Tommy Bradford nodded in for his first goal since January.

HALF-TIME: 3 - 0

Much like the opening 45, the game was even for the first 15 minutes but two quick-fire goals on the hour put this game to bed as a contest.

Firstly, Bradford steamed into the Molesey area and met Korboa's centre to score his second header of the match.

Then, on 61 minutes, the unfortunate Ato Okai turned the ball past his own keeper with Bobby Price breathing down his back at the far post.

Billy Bishop was a virtual spectator for most of the game as our defence kept things tight and we added a rare clean sheet to an enjoyable days work.

Match postponed

Sadly, due to the adverse weather conditions, our trip to Herne Bay tomorrow (Saturday 3rd March) has been postponed. Please do not travel and a revised date will be made known in due course.

The next game for the first-team is now at home against Molesey on Saturday 10th March.

Post-match - Paris Hamilton-Downes

Our fine run of form continued at the weekend as an eighth win in 10 games kept us firmly in the Bostik South promotion hunt, writes James Barrett-Sterling.

Two goals by striker Omar Koroma gave us a 2-1 win over mid-table Thamesmead Town last Saturday and now means we sit only three points behind league leaders Lewes.

And club captain Paris Hamilton-Downes, despite describing that recent victory as "scrappy", believes its vitally important he and his teammates keep up their high standards.

"We've spoken about needing to go into every game putting in the same effort, regardless of where our opponents are in the league," Hamilton-Downes said.

"We did that against Thamesmead but I think our tempo dropped a little and the game became scrappy.  They made it hard for us but we've managed to get over the line."

We started brightly against Town but had to wait 22 minutes before breaking the deadlock - Tommy Bradford was felled inside our opponent's box and Koroma coolly converted the spot-kick.

Cleans sheets have proven elusive during our impressive run however and we conceded just after half-time as Laurent Mendy nodded Town level from close range.

But Koroma was found by a Jordan Cheadle cross on 58 minutes and he headed home his 10th of the season in Robins red.

"Everyone's been digging in every week and we stick to our philosophy too," added Hamilton-Downes when asked about our fine run of form.

"Pete (Adeniyi, manger) and Keith (Boanas, coach) have tweaked things here and there but, as the results show, there's been no real need for us to change much whether that's at training or on matchday."

Our next match is a trip to Herne Bay on Saturday and our opponents are the only club to take three points off us since the start of November.

"We'll be really up for the game but it's always tough to go to Herne Bay and it'll probably still be freezing cold weather, so we'll prepare well and stick to our game plan."

Match report - Thamesmead Town (h)

We continued our assault on the League summit with a hard-earned three points against Thamesmead Town, writes James Barrett-Sterling.

Team news
Only one change from the team that beat Cray Wanderers last week with Omar Koroma replacing Peter Adeniyi. Ex-Robin Paul Vines lined-up for the visitors.

Kick-off
The players began basked in sunshine and buffeted by high winds but we made a quick start and had an appeal for a penalty in the third minute.

Ola Sogbanmu had the ball inside the visitors' area and it seemed Richard Avery blocked his attempted cross with an arm, but the referee waved played on.

Christie Pattisson was making his home debut and he had the fans on their feet on seven minutes - he burst through on a long crossfield ball before thrashing a firm half volley back across goal from 15 yards, but the ball flew agonisingly just over the crossbar.

He was at it again a few minutes later as he cut inside onto his left on the far side but, again, his shot went just wide of the far post.

Town hadn't offered much going forward and we finally broke the deadlock on 22 minutes - Harvey Brand caught Tommy Bradford inside the area and Koroma stepped up to confidently convert the spot-kick.

That seemed to jolt the visitors into life and they started to work our backline a bit more, but Billy Bishop was equal to their best chance as he dived to smother a Vines header.

HALF-TIME: 1 - 0

It came as a surprise when Town levelled five minutes after the break, but we were the masters of our own downfall.

We failed to deal with a ball into our box and Paris Hamilton-Downes' clearance in the six yard box was charged down by Anidugbe. Bobby Price then had a chance to clear but he could only hit Laurent Mendy whom then proceeded to nod the ball in from close range.

We then lost Price to an injury so Danny Dudley came on and, in fact, we weren't behind for very long.

We were patient in possession and eventually Cheadle took the ball on before delicately chipping in a cross which Koroma powerfully headed inside the near post.

Town keeper Lewis Carey made two top draw saves to deny Sogbanmu and Cheadle as time ticked on, but we were grateful to see Richard Pacquette flash a header over from 10 yards in added time.

Post-match interview - Christie Pattison

Forward Christie Pattison made a dream start to his Carshalton Athletic career on Saturday as his match-winner against Cray Wanderers opened up the Bostik South promotion race, writes James Barrett-Sterling.

We visited the then league leaders having only lost once in 18 league games, but we had to come from behind as goals from Jordan Cheadle and debutant Pattison earned us a 2-1 victory.

There's now only five points separating the top five and Pattison, whom signed from Phoenix Sports just over a week ago, was ecstatic to help his new club keep up our charge.

"As debuts go that was pretty good," smiled the 20-year old. "I've managed to get some space and Ola found my run. I only had time to take one touch but I got off a strong shot and it flew in.

"It was so pleasing to score and help the team win such a big game, and this kind of result will boost everyone's confidence."

It was a tight affair at Hayes Lane as the first-half ended goalless, but we were unfortunate to go behind on 51 minutes as Aaron Rhule's cross drifted inside of the far post.

But we rallied and Cheadle levelled matters 20 minutes later via a 30 yard free kick that left Cray keeper Nick Blue rooted to the spot.

Then two minutes later Pattison, whom no doubt would've debuted a week earlier had our trip to current league leaders Lewes not been postponed, endeared himself to the fans with the eventual winner.

"That game being called off helped in one way however because I got to bond and train with my new teammates for longer before a real game," he added.

"Everyone was happy after Saturday's result but the boss reminded us that we've still not won anything yet. There's still plenty of games to go, and more big ones like the trip to Lewes, so we have to keep focused."

We are next at home against Thamesmead Town on Saturday 24th February (kick-off 3pm).

Match report - Cray Wanderers (a)

We won this clash of promotion hopefuls as two second-half wonder strikes helped us see off Cray Wanderers, writes James Barrett-Sterling.

Team news
New signing Christie Pattison was handed his debut and Ola Sogbanmu returned for Omar Koroma and Danny Dudley respectively.

Kick-off
Hayes Lane was bathed in sunlight as the game begun and Raheem Sterling-Parker teed up Jordan Cheadle on the edge of Cray’s box but, under pressure, his side-footed effort in the third minute bent wide of the far post.

Billy Bishop was called into early action as he got down low to deny Dadson and, thankfully, Michael Power steered the rebound wide from close range.

The fast start to the game remained as Jay Leader’s speculative shot from distance was tipped round by Bishop and, after a poor corner delivery, we broke with Peter Adeniyi finding Michael Aziaya.

Our midfielder looked up and fed a lovely through ball for Sterling-Parker to race onto but keeper Nick Blue spread himself and blocked the dinked shot.

Both sides were happy to allow each other possession in their respective halves, but defences were on top when attacks threatened to start looking tasty.

We almost unlocked the door on 28 minutes as Sogbanmu lost, but then subsequently regained, possession just outside the Cray 18-yard box. He shuffled the ball into Pattison whom cut inside and lifted an inviting cross towards the incoming Sterling-Parker but the delivery was millimetres too high.

The home side won a free kick on 39 minutes as Paris Hamilton-Downes halted a forward run by Power 20 yards from goal, but Bishop comfortably gathered Dent’s low strike on goal.

We almost finished the half with a flourish as Pattison showed good determination down the right to get past a couple of opponents and into the box. His square ball was met by a combination of Sterling-Parker and a defender and the ball agonisingly rolled wide of the near post.

The referee awarded us a corner that was met by the oncoming Kalvin Morath-Gibbs but the bouncing ball came off his thigh and flew wide as he failed to set himself properly.

HALF-TIME: 0 – 0

It did seem like something special, or indeed comical, or maybe controversial would break the deadlock in this one but it turned out to be pure simple luck.

Cray’s Aaron Rhule won possession by the centre circle and set off towards goal, eventually getting down the far side of our box. He knocked a cross over towards the back post area and the ball sailed just inside the far post.

We responded straightaway as Bobby Price galloped forward a minute later but his angled drive was well held by Blue.

Tommy Bradford and Sterling-Parker combined on the hour mark and the latter’s cross found Sogbanmu by the penalty spot. He managed to steady himself and get a shot off, but an outstretched defensive leg blocked the ball away.

But we kept plugging away and, on 71 minutes, Pattision made a driving run through the middle of the pitch before being hauled down 30 yards from goal.

Up stepped Cheadle – he hadn’t scored since November but he left Blue rooted as he angled his free kick just under the top near corner for his sixth of the season.

And our travelling fans were overjoyed just two minutes later as Sogbanmu was found with a throw in and he spun to play in Pattison whom took a touch with his right before rifling a left-footed effort beyond Blue.

We had a chance to add a gloss to the final score on 87 minutes as sub Ricky Korboa found himself on the ball six yards from goal but, although he managed to get the ball over the oncoming Blue, he lifted his shot off target.

Match report - Hythe Town (h)

It was a hard-earned three points as we eventually completed a League double over visiting Hythe Town, writes James Barrett-Sterling.

Team news
Peter Adeniyi, Paris Hamilton-Downes and Raheem Sterling-Parker all came into the side, while new signing Rian O'Sullivan, on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion, was named on the bench.

Kick-off
It was a wet and grey afternoon as the game began in light drizzle and the first real opening didn't arrive until the 13th minute.

Adeniyi poked a through ball for Sterling-Parker to latch onto but, from a narrow angle, our top scorer bent a shot just over the top far corner.

Defences were certainly on top as the forwards found it difficult to win much in the air, although Zak Ansah hit a bobbling shot across Billy Bishop's goal from 18 yards.

Hamilton-Downes fancied his chances from 20 yards on 22 minutes but failed to hit the target as chances were kept at a premium.

But we finally broke the deadlock just after the half-hour as Sterling-Parker was played in down the left and he cut inside Michael Turner before unleashing a low shot that curled inside the bottom far corner.

Our joy was short-lived however as, less than four minutes later, the lively Ryan Palmer delivered a cross from deep and Dos Santos got free to plant a header beyond Bishop from seven yards.

Town threatened again on 40 minutes as Webster picked out an unmarked Chris Kinnear 20 yards from goal. The midfielder powered a shot which took a slight nick off the covering Hamilton-Downes and the ball thankfully crashed off the crossbar.

And the visitors had an opportunity to take the lead just before the break after Kinnear was bundled over by Michael Aziaya, but Ryan Palmer bent the free kick wide of the far post.

HALF-TIME: 1 - 1

Ola Sogbanmu was introduced for the start of the second-half but defences continued to dominant proceedings.

Adeniyi and Bradford combined to get Koroma a glimpse of goal, but a defensive leg stretched out to block. At the other end and Bishop was alive to a burst forward by Chapman to smother the ball travelling fast on the slick surface.

Sogbanmu and then Koroma did well to flick on a Billy Bishop clearance on 55 minutes and Sterling-Parker burst beyond the Town defence, but his first touch was heavy and it gave Godmon the chance to come out and eventually block our man's eventual shot away.

In hindsight it always seemed the two sides would be separated by 'something' and we given a chance to take the lead from the spot on 72 minutes.

Bradford played a delightful through ball for Adeniyi to run onto beyond the Town backline. Godmon did well to slide out and block the ball away with his legs, as our player/manager considered rounding him, but the ball found it's way back to Bradford.

He came forward with purpose and was up-ended by a late challenge by Godmon just inside the area - once the dust had settled, and the referee dished out several talking-tos, Koroma calmly stroked home his eighth goal in eight appearances.

And we held on for the three points, with both sub Ricky Koboa and Bradford denied by Godmon late on, ahead of consecutive visits to the only two clubs above us in the league - Lewes and then Cray Wanderers.

Match report - Phoenix Sports (a)

A feisty encounter ended honours even as we left Mayplace Road with a 1-1 draw, writes James Barrett-Sterling.

Team news
Ryan Healy came in for the departing Mickel Miller in the only change from the 5-1 win against East Grinstead Town.

Kick-off
The game was played in terrible conditions - the wind was so strong it was holding up goal-kicks or carrying through balls away from their intended targets; for the football purist, it was not.

Jordan Cheadle fired in a shot from 30 yards that had keeper Steve Phillips scrambling early doors, but clear cut chances were hard to come by until the 20th minute.

The home side should've really opened the scoring as Ashley Probets delivered an inswinging free kick that was met by Jack Barry, but the centre back put a free header wide from six yards.

It seemed inevitable that the deadlock would be broken via a set-piece and we won a corner in the 37th minute. Tommy Bradford sent over an inviting ball which Kalvin Morath-Gibbs powerfully headed home from around six yards.

The home side wanted a penalty in added time as Barry and Ola Sogbanmu tumbled while contesting a free kick into our area, but Carvalho blasted the loose ball way over from close range and the goal would've counted.

The referee had to deal with a melee as the players began to troop off the pitch at half-time, with Sports' Zak Byron allegedly sparking off an incident with Healy - tellingly the home midfielder didn't re-appear for the second-half.

HALF-TIME: 0 - 1

Our hosts came out on the front foot after the break and, after we failed to clear our lines properly from a throw-in deep inside our half, a loose ball was turned goalwards by Christie Pattison from 20 yards and it beat the dive of Bishop into the top corner.

We had to weather some more attacking play by our hosts before Ricky Korboa made a purposeful run on the left on 56 minutes. He finally fizzed a low ball across the six yard box and Bradford was just too slow sliding in to divert it on target.

Neither side really created much more going into the last 10 minutes but we did have a big opportunity to nick all three points on 86 minutes.

Bradford threaded a neat forward pass into a run by sub Raheem Sterling-Parker whom had beaten Barry for pace but, as the angle got tighter inside the area, his angled shot flew wide of the far post.

Club statement - Mickel Miller

We can formally announce forward Mickel Miller has been scooped up by Scottish Premiership club Hamilton Academical for an undisclosed fee.

Miller, a 21-year old Carshalton Athletic Academy graduate from South London, who has netted 25 times already this season, has been attracting increased attention from professional clubs since last season.

He was one of a select group of Non-League players invited to the Jamie Vardy Academy last summer which then led to a short trial with Sheffield United.

But it’s the Accies who have sealed a move that sees Miller sign a year-and-a-half contract and scale an equivalent six steps of the football pyramid.

Miller started with us at the age of 15 and made his first team debut two years later. He fast became a fans favourite known for his frightening turn of pace, quick feet and ferocious strike.

Miller scored his final goal as a Robin in the 5-1 win against East Grinstead Town at Colston Avenue earlier this month.

“I want to thank Paul Dipre for believing in me and Peter Adeniyi for the freedom to express myself since taking charge,” Miller said.

“I’ve enjoyed every minute at Carshalton, and the support from the staff and fans has meant so much to me, but this is the start of something new and I look forward to where it might take me.”

Club chairman Paul Dipre commented: “I am very pleased for Mickel and I’m sure it won’t be the last time he will make headlines.

“I would like to thank Ronnie MacDonald (Hamilton chairman) for the way the transaction has been conducted. On behalf of everyone at Colston Avenue I wish both Mickel and the Accies the best of luck in the seasons ahead.”

Miller came through our youth and academy system, being one of the first students since the Academy’s inception. He will follow an impressive list of former youngsters who have played for the Robins youth set-up including Millwall midfielder Jed Wallace.

In total, Miller made 118 appearances for us and scored over 50 goals.

Match report - East Grinstead Town (h)

We made it four wins in four as we saw off a spirited East Grinstead Town on Saturday afternoon, writes James Barrett-Sterling.

Team news
Kalvin Morath-Gibbs, Ola Sogbanmu, Tommy Bradford, Michael Aziaya and Jordan Cheadle all returned to the starting line-up, with Raheem Sterling-Parker named among the subs for the first time since his injury sustained on Boxing Day.

Kick-off
We began on the front foot and forced the first real save of the game inside 10 minutes.

Tommy Bradford found some space in the Town box and he thrashed a low effort on target with the outside of his left foot, only for Risheet Lal to palm it round the far post.

But, on 14 minutes, Omar Koroma ran onto a long ball and Town skipper Dean Cooney clumsily chopped him down as they jockeyed inside the area. The referee pointed to the spot and our man beat Lal's low dive for his sixth goal in Robins red.

We were keeping possession well but Town tightened up after going behind and now stifled a lot of our forward play, with full back Craig Ferguson in particular executing a perfect tackle on Sogbanmu as our man almost wriggled free on goal.

And visiting winger Isaac Hutchinson gave Billy Bishop a couple of things to think about with shots from distance that had our keeper on his toes.

But, one minute before half-time, Sogbanmu won us a free kick inside their D. Up stepped Cheadle whom forced Lal into a low parry and Koroma was alert enough to nod the rising ball back into the net.

HALF-TIME: 2 - 0

Town came out more purposefully after the break and Will Hoare found space in our box to get the ball beyond Bishop, but Danny Dudley had read the situation and cleared the ball from virtually off his own line.

But the home fans didn't have too wait long to celebrate again as, while we tried to create something down the left, Lal made a hash of an attempted clearance and Sogbanmu lobbed the ball back first-time over the keeper and into an empty net.

Our visitors didn't flag however and continued to put us under pressure which culminated in a chance for Marcus Elliott whom smashed a half volley from 12 yards into the ground, but Bishop did excellently to palm the bouncing ball away.

We weren't to be denied though - we regained our composure and a fourth goal came on 70 minutes as Ricky Korboa latched on to a poor defensive header before drilling a low shot across Lal and in off the far post for his sixth of the season.

A welcome sight greeted the Robins faithful as Raheem Sterling-Parker was then sent on, but Town conspired to take the tarnish off our afternoon on 74 minutes.

We only half cleared a ball into our box and Elliott teed up the lively Hutchinson whom blasted a low effort in off a post from 18 yards.

That was the only blot on our copy book however, unless you count Korboa’s miss from six yards after sub Mickel Miller got down the right before picking out his teammate whom skied his effort over the bar.

But Miller had the final say as, in added time, he galloped down the right and teased his way past two markers on the byline before being bundled over. He picked himself up and beat Lal from 12 yards to wrap up yet another comprehensive victory.

Match highlights, photos and interviews all to follow soon.
