Interview - Peter Adeniyi

We recently experienced defeat for the first time this season but player/manager Peter Adeniyi is confident the squad will bounce straight back, writes James Barrett-Sterling.

We were unbeaten in our first eight games before agonisingly losing 4-3 at National South side Eastbourne Borough last Saturday in the FA Cup.

That was followed by a loss at home in the Velocity Cup as visitors Dorking Wanderers ran out 3-1 winners on Monday – although it was a result that flattered the Bostik Premier outfit.

“The last two results have been disappointing because we could’ve done better in terms of the goals we’ve conceded,” said Adeniyi.

“Tiny mistakes get punished when you play against teams from higher divisions but I think if we just tighten up a bit more at the back then we’ll be fine.

“We also created plenty of chances and showed great character, especially against Eastbourne, so I’m happy with the attitude shown by everyone across the two games and I’m sure we’ll get back to winning ways this weekend.”

Adeniyi has moved to strengthen his defensive options in the past week as defenders Tom Jelley and Antone Douglas joined the ranks at Colston Avenue.

Adeniyi: Looking forwards
“I’m lucky to be working with a chairman that listens and backs me when necessary, hence the arrival of Tom and Antone,” added the 37 year-old midfielder.

“Both are vastly experienced and welcome additions, but I’m proud to be a part of this squad. There is talent all over the pitch and I’m sure we’ll get our good start back on track.”

We have a first-ever encounter with Phoenix Sports on Saturday and Adeniyi is looking forward to the game.

“They’ve also made a good start to their season so it’ll be a tough game on Saturday,” he added. “I’m going to watch them in their FA Cup replay on Tuesday and we’ll be up for the challenge.”

Our game against Phoenix Sports kick-off at 3pm on Saturday 23rd September.
