Manager interview - Peter Adeniyi

Manager Peter Adeniyi was in reflective mood ahead of our league clash against Guernsey this Saturday, writes James Barrett.

We threw away a 2-0 lead against Worthing in our FA Cup replay on Monday evening to eventually lose 6-2, with the cause not helped by the second-half dismissal of defender Jahmahl King.

But Adeniyi believes the spirit shown by the squad for the majority of the two games against higher league opposition will stand us in good stead during our Ryman South campaign.

“The boys have been fantastic so far this season and we more than competed across the two cup games against Worthing over the past week,” said Adeniyi.

“Most of their goals on Monday came through individual errors by us and perhaps that’s the difference between two clubs in different leagues but, if we keep performing like we have been throughout August, then I’ve got no worries about doing well in the league this season.”

Brendan Murphy-McVey and Ricky Korboa put us into a commanding lead on Monday, but a goal conceded just before half-time gave the visitors a lifeline.

The first 15 minutes of a madcap second-half saw Worthing both level and take the lead in between King picking up his two bookings, and they utilised the extra man to further punish us three more times late on.

“If we went into the break two-nil up then perhaps we’d of gone on to see the game out,” mused Adeniyi, “but that first goal galvanised them and we needed to be more solid during that opening period after half-time.”

We go looking for a fourth win in five league games against Guernsey this weekend and Adeniyi will ensure his troops will be concentrated on taking three points.

“I have no concerns we won’t be focused for the Guernsey game,” Adeniyi added. “The league is our main priority and the boys will want to continue their good form.”

We kick-off against Guernsey at 1pm this Saturday 10th September.
