Player interview - Matt Males

We progressed in the FA Cup on Saturday after a comfortable victory against visiting Farnham Town.

Mickel Miller and Ricky Korboa continued their good goalscoring form by sharing the goals in our 3-0 win and cement a first qualifying round tie away at Ryman Premier outfit Worthing.
But Matt Males believes we shouldn’t start getting complacent after winning all three games of the season to date.
“We were fairly comfortable out there and, with no disrespect to Farnham, should’ve scored more goals – we had two disallowed and hit the crossbar twice,” said Males.
“But they put us under pressure a bit in the second-half and I think that’s because we became too relaxed. It is easy to take your foot off the gas when on top but that’s when things can slip.
“Had they nicked one at only one or two-nil then the game could've potentially change, so Mickel’s second straight after half-time was important and we just need to maintain focus moving forwards.”
Males did salute our young forward line however since Miller, Korboa and Tommy Bradford have shared all nine goals we've scored so far between them.
"There’s been some banter on social media about me being a contender for golden boot, but I’m not even allowed up for corners!" he laughed.
"But those three have started the season so well and they can provide us a goal threat at any moment of a game, plus with have the likes of Brendan and Kingsley to start chipping in too."
Males is relishing the chance to play against higher league opposition in the next round of the cup and he is confident we can give Worthing a stern test.
“They were in our division last season and we got a draw at theirs with a good performance,” he added.
“Although we’ll be underdogs for that one, we have a strong mentality here and are going into every game at the moment believing we can win.”
We return to league business on Saturday 27th August with a trip to East Grinstead Town (KO 3pm).
